The ISO9001:2008 standard was replaced with ISO9001:2015 in September 2015. Additions to the standard include: A high level structure statement (Annex SL) with reference to:

• Organisational Context
• Knowledge Management: what knowledge (information) is necessary for the operation of the Management System, information to be managed securely and communicated as necessary and the need for new and updated and the risk of not acquiring that information in a planned and timely manner is to be managed.
• The control of externally sourced products and services (outsourcing) and a more focused approach to business risks.
• The organisation's Annex SL statement would apply for any ISO Standard.

Changes to existing topics include: extra emphasis on the commitment of top management, change management, evaluation of performance, the management review system and the process approach.
